Energy Efficient Homes

MorningStar Homes is proud to offer new homes that have earned Southern Energy Management’s ecoSelect® certification. EcoSelect® certificated homes are designed and built to be healthy, comfortable, and efficient through a combination of green building strategies, water conservation features, and performance testing. Our ecoSelect® certified new homes are independently verified by a third-party Home Energy Rater to ensure they meet ecoSelect® standards and give you the home’s HERS rating. These homes are better for the environment and better for you.  Learn more at https://southern-energy.com/ecoselect/ and www.getecoSelect.com

We also participate in Duke Energy Progress’ Hero+ Program.  Homes that qualify for this program are built well above the minimum code requirements for energy efficiency, between 15-20% more efficient than minimum standards. In addition, we have the performance of our new homes independently verified and given a HERS rating by a Home Energy Rater, which earns our homes the HERO+ designation.   Learn more about Duke Energy Progress’ New Residential Construction program at

Benefits of Our Energy Efficient New Homes

Features of our Energy Efficient Homes

Effective Insulation

Properly installed insulation that meets or exceeds national code requirements helps achieve even temperatures throughout the house while using less energy. The result is lower utility costs and a quieter, more comfortable home.

High-performance Windows

Advanced window coatings help keep heat in during winter and out during summer. They also block damaging ultraviolet sunlight that can discolor carpets and furniture.

Tight Construction & Tight Ducts

Attention to detail by sealing all holes, cracks and seams in ducts and construction assemblies helps eliminate drafts, moisture, dust, pests and pollen. This improves the comfort and quality of indoor air, while lowering maintenance costs.

Energy-efficient Heating & Cooling Equipment

More efficient and properly sized heating and cooling systems use less energy, reducing utility bills. These systems also turn on and off less frequently, removing more humidity and providing better comfort.
